Shirly Brener is one of the most prolific actresses and producers working today in Hollywood. Over the last few years she has shared screen time with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Val kilmer, 50 Cent, Sharon Stone, John Cusack, Lindsay Lohan, Joey Lawrence and many others.
Shirly, who comes from generations of Israeli celebrities (including Israel’s first president, Haim Weizman, who was Brener’s grandmother’s brother) was born in Israel, but grew up in London and Los Angeles. Her breakout role on the big screen was in ‘Hijacking Hollywood’ during the 90′s, then she came back to Israel for a role in one of the nation’s most successful TV shows to date, Ramat Aviv Gimmel, a role which turned Brener into a household name in Israel.
Esquire Magazine named her as one of the top 5 Israeli up and coming actresses in Hollywood today. Brener has graced covers, fashion shoots and editorials in magazines in the US and all over the world, such as Maxim, FHM, Esquire, Mint, Balance, LA Health, ManTalk, Summum, BC, Joker Magazine, The Jewish Journal, to name a few.
Amongst Brener’s numerous projects in America is Jon Avnet’s thriller, ‘Rightous Kill,” opposite Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino, the crime drama “Streets of Blood” with Sharon Stone and Val Kilmer, ‘Britney’, alongside Lindsay Lohan and Cheryl Hines in the ABC Family comedy “LABOR PAINS” (2009).
On stage, Brener was seen in the play “Eccentric”, which was performed in the NOHO district of Los Angeles. It was written up as a critic’s pick in LA WEEKLY and nominated for an LA Weekly Award. And most recently she was one of the leads in the sketch comedy improv show “The All American Family Variety Hour” on the Second City stage.
Mixing business and art has always been synonymous for Brener. In Aug 2010, Shirly began her term as the Vice President of Business Development for Radar Pictures (‘The Last Samurai,’ ‘The Chronicles Of Riddick,’ ‘Runaway Bride’). She was handpicked by legendary producer Ted Field (owner/CEO) to work closely under him and his team, while building Radar into a mini studio. As part of her multi-year deal she also served as producer on several of the films Radar is developing. Under her film company Brener Films, she recently completed producing 3 films, the latest of which is entitled “SESSION”, a psychological suspense thriller starring Steven Bauer and Bar Refaeli.
She currently resides with her husband, Bruce Rubenstein (artist and screenwriter) and their young daughters Mila (who’s also developing a career in show business) and Journey Elle.
