Bio

Through his remarkable career, which started somewhere in the 1970′s, Svika Pick’s resume includes playing ‘Claude’ in the Israeli version of ‘Hair,’ releasing more than 20 original studio albums and over 10 compilations , writing a winning song for the Eurovision Song Contest, writing dozens of hits for other European countries such as Belarus and Ukraine, head- judging the Israeli equivalent of ‘American Idol,’ starring in a reality (mocumentary) show about his life as well as guest-starring in an Israeli soap, and having a musical (which later became a mini-series for television) based on his music.

Pick’s first album was released when he was only 19, back in 1971, and included several hits like “Ain Medina La’Ahava” (‘No Country for Love’) which transformed him immediately into one of the biggest popstars in the country. Music critics loved him, men were jealous of him, women threw bras at him. The albums that came after, achieving record breaking sales, definitely proved that Pick is here to stay, and some of his songs, like ‘Musika’ (‘Music’) and ‘Ahava Besof Hakayitz’ (‘Love at the End of Summer’) have entered the list of the most successful pop songs in Israel’s history.

His shows, combining an unusual look and outstanding vocals, have reached new levels of excitement and hysteria among fans, who also voted for him year after year as Best Male Vocalist in Israel, as well as buying the biographies that have been written about his fascinating life.

1998 was the year when Svika Pick’s career went even further, when he wrote the song ‘Diva’ which later that year represented Israel (performed by Dana International) and won in the biggest European music competition, the Eurovision Song Contest. ‘Diva,’ alongside ABBA’s ‘Waterloo’ are still considered as the top 2 Eurovision biggest hits of its 55 years of existence.

Due to his unique musical talent and his genius for writing the perfect pop-songs with his secret of composing memorable music and melodies, Pick has gained the nickname ‘The Maestro,’ a nickname that inspired Channel ‘Bip’ in Israel, to produce a reality show about his life.

In 2002 the National Theater of Israel, ‘Habima’ presented a musical, entitled ‘Mary Lou’, based of Pick’s music and songs. The musical became an instant hit- a complete sell out with over 500 performances and over half a million viewers to date. For this reason and more, award winning Israeli director Eytan Fox was inspired to write and produce a 4 episode mini-series in 2007 with the same name, which has now been transformed into a full 2.5 hour movie, and is shown in selected theaters across the United States.
