The Hit List: This Week’s Hottest Music in Israel (Week 12, 2012)

Apr 02 2012

A week before Passover shows pretty clearly that Israelis prepare their homes for the holiday and don’t go out to the movies, since grossing has been decreased dramatically. Disney’s ‘John Carter’ starring Taylor Kitcsh is the biggest movie this week after making only $40K in theaters, and there are no new releases at the top 5, which indicates a pretty numb week.

In music, however, there are some changes due to new album releases for the holidays. Mediterranean music queen Sarit Hadad, (who also mentored ‘The Voice – Israel’ winner Kathleen Reiter) makes a new entry at #1 with her new song, followed by veteran Shlomo Artzi, who’s releasing a new album after 5 years (‘Osher Express’). There’s also a fine presentation of the Shabat family. After Avihu, son of Shlomi Shabat, conquered the hearts (and playlists) of Israel, now comes the daughter, Manor Shabat, with her debut single, “When you are.”

In the international chart “We Are Young” by Fun, which also raises interest in America (it’s the 4th biggest song on American radio this week), makes an Israel number one, kicking off Gotye and his former #1 both in Israel and the UK.

Last but not least, we have received the list of the biggest American series in Israel, and looks like the Israelis LOVE their comedies, because ’2 Broke Girls’ starring Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs (picture above) is the biggest show, followed by season one of ‘Happy Endings.’ J J Abrams’ new sci-fi ‘Alcatraz’ is at number 3, and the Marilyn Monroe musical in the making, AKA “Smash” also gets nice ratings and reaches number 4.
