MARYLAND: Cliff Goldkind, a poker master at 25, talks about his love for the game and other people’s misconceptions, his poker-world-series winning, and why he had a break in order to join the Israeli army (“I see [Israel] as a safety net for all Jews around the world”)
“The easiest way to describe why a slot machine or blackjack or craps are just luck and poker is predominately skill is because you’re playing against other people in poker. You are not playing against the casino. So as much as you can make a better decision than another person that you’re playing against, you’re going to be that much more profitable than him. It’s a zero-sum game, so, if you’re making a profitable decision, that means he’s making that much less of a profitable decision against you.”
