Artist Walkthrough with Kevin Appel and Iva Gueorguieva
LOS ANGELES: The American Friends of the Israel Museum will host tomorrow (Thursday) a walkthrough of LA artists Iva Gueorguieva (picture above) and Kevin Appel’s latest work before it opens to the public on Saturday. The artists themselves will participate at the event.
In his new work, Kevin Appel breaches new territory in exploring the tenuous relationship between the modes of photography, painting, and architecture and the incongruities that are produced at their collision.
Gueorguieva’s work, while simultaneously indebted to the history of gestural abstraction and distancing itself from that history, is committed to the idea that gesture in painting can carry information that is neither simply graphic nor subjective, but that this gesture can have an active relationship with the real world.
The American Friends of the Israel Museum Associates is comprised of young professionals who reside in the LA area and share an interest in art and a commitment to Israel. The Associates are recognized as the West coast’s next generation of Israel Museum supporters. In order to engage and raise such support, AFIM Associates organize art-related programs throughout the year. All contributions generated by the Associates are allocated for the Associates Acquisitions fund, purchasing new art work for the Museum.
